Watching a woman have a baby on TV these days can give false ideas about what birth actually can be.  How does TV portray birth? Water breaks, woman starts screaming, frantically she is taken to the hospital, commercial break and then she’s holding her baby.  So far NONE of my Doula clients have had a baby in this manner nor this fast. LOL! Did you know that more and more women are starting to have their babies at HOME? In the state of Texas, babies don’t HAVE to be born in a hospital. You have the birth option to birth in the comfort of your own home.

I was shopping one day in Whole Foods.  I was walking around the produce section with my rhinestone Serenity Life Doula shirt on.  A lady approached me, asked me if I was a birth Doula.  I said “yes”.  She shared with me that she had all 6 of her children at home.  Yep, that’s right, she had 6 HOME BIRTHS!! She shared how she loved her midwife, loved her birth Doula, loved her husband and loved every single one of her home birth experiences and little ones!! She made my day!! I almost didn’t stop at that particular Whole Foods that day, first time to shop at that location and she was only in the DFW area for a short time.  So happy I did!! We actual stay in touch via Facebook and hope to cross paths again one day.

Shortly after meeting a 6X home birth momma, I attended an amazing home birth with a repeat client.  This momma labored freely around her home in any position she desired in the wee hours of the night, while her first born slept soundly in the next room. In just a few short hours she was holding her baby in her arms.  She did it!! She had her ideal birthing experience in the comfort of her own home with her husband right by her side.  I was overjoyed for this couple and their amazing home birth experience I had the privilege to witness.

Another neat thing about home birth, is you don’t have to go anywhere during labor or after you give birth.  Your birth team comes to you, gives you support you need during your labor, birth and postpartum. Your birth team provides a wonderful concierge birth service!!

As a birth Doula, home births are my favorite births to attend.  The environment is peaceful, quiet and warm.  The laboring mom is in her most secure and comfortable environment. There are no unnecessary beeping machines or people coming in and out constantly.  No interventions or unnecessary poking and prodding on the mom or her new baby.  She lets her body do exactly what it is intended to do; bring her baby to her arms.
